How can i do a do-it-yourself divorce?

Get the divorce packet? Fill it out first (do me and my husband sign it first) OR do I file it with the court first (we’re in NYC) Usually, does the court assign an index number right away or do they mail it to you? Is anyone familiar with this?
Also, what happens, if you filed for divorce but later on change your mind? Do you have to let the court know or just leave it alone?

You should first purchase a book on do-it-yourself divorce that applies to your state. Next, you will need forms to file with your local court system. You and your spouse will want a written description of your agreed distribution of property and child custody. All of these should be signed and notarized, and both parties should have a copy for their records.
